Hella Butter Reviews: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith!

Finally. The moment we were waiting for. The reason why audiences(including myself the past three days) have sat through the prequel trilogy. We finally get to witness the birth of Darth Vader. Was it worth watching the first two episodes to get to this moment? You bet. The prequel trilogy gets bashed on a lot, but in my opinion – the Revenge of the Sith stands out. Maybe because the previous two were that bad? Or maybe it’s because the movie is actually pretty good. Honestly, it’s hard to fuck up a movie where the birth of the Empire and Darth Vader take place. Love it or hate it – this was the movie we were waiting for.

The movie opens up with Anakin(who is now a Jedi Knight) and Obi-Wan(now a Jedi Master) trying to rescue Chancellor Palpatine and capture General Grievous. We get a duel between Anakin and Count Dooku(much like Episode II) which leads to Palpatine manipulating Anakin to kill Dooku while he is unarmed. That is against the Jedi way. We slowly start to see the turn more and more as each scene in this movie goes on. It’s sad to see what becomes of him. We also find out that Padme is pregnant and the two plan on living on her home planet of Naboo. Anakin then has repeating dreams of Padme dying during child birth. It’s messed up that while during all of this, Palpatine(who reveals to Anakin that he is a Sith Lord) informs Anakin that together they can stop people from dying from using the dark side of the force. You heard that correct – Anakin turns to the dark side to save the woman he loves. Talk about drama.

It wasn’t until after this movie, I realized how much of an Obi-Wan Kenobi fan I am. He is the most important Jedi if you think about it. Yeah, he trained Anakin who ended up turning into Darth Vader – but we all know he ends up training Luke Skywalker as well. We see Obi-Wan battle General Grievous which was not too bad to watch. I remembered being a lot more amazed as a kid though. Grievous wielding 4 lightsabers always looked insane to me. I would love to see Ewan McGregor come back in a solo Obi-Wan movie. After watching this last film of the prequel trilogy, he is clearly the best and most consistent thing about it. Thank you Ewan.

But of course, the main reason we wanted to watch Revenge of the Sith was to finally see Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. We heard about it in the original trilogy, and now we get to watch it. The battle at the end did not disappoint. The lava and fire of the planet Mustafar made the perfect scenery for such an epic showdown. It truly made me feel sad when Obi-Wan shouts to Anakin that he has failed him as a mentor. Anakin responds with him saying that the Jedi are evil. I will not say exactly how the battle ends(incase you haven’t seen it), but it was cool to see Obi-Wan pick up Anakin’s lightsaber since we know he will be giving that to Luke in the future. During this fight, we also get to see Yoda and the now Emperor Palpatine(also known as Darth Sidious) have their own lightsaber duel as well. I was not as emotionally invested in this fight as I was with the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight, so I kept wishing for the scenes to cut back to their battle instead.

At one point during this movie, my girlfriend says “God it looks so fake”. She was talking about the setting and I mean she was right. No surprise here – the movie was full of CGI. Other than that, I don’t have too much to complain about. We got to see Order 66 and witness the fall of the Jedi first hand. We also see Palpatine and Vader at the end(with Tarkin) look over on the first Death Star being built. This movie just has a bunch of scenes like those that fans of the original trilogy will appreciate

Is Revenge of the Sith the best Star Wars movie? No. Is it the best out of the prequels? Without a doubt. This movie gives us everything we need- Anakin turning into Vader, the creation of the Empire, the fall of the Jedi, and lastly the birth of Luke and Leia. I put this film on par with Return of the Jedi. You may not agree with that last statement, but it is just my opinion. So based on all those points I listed above, I will look past the horrible acting by Hayden and give Revenge of the Sith a SOLID 7/10.
