Plot: When a misfit alien named Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons) crash lands on Earth, he forms an unlikely friendship with Tip (voiced by Rihanna), an adventurous but untrusting girl. Together they form an odd couple friendship and embark on a global road trip while on the run from Oh’s own alien species. Their wild trip and growing bond of friendship plays a vital role in intergalactic relations.

Review: Home is the latest film from Dreamworks Animation. The studio already has three huge franchises – Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, and Despicable Me. It was to the point where Dreamworks Animation was ALMOST getting on that PIXAR level with great movies. I am sorry to say, but Home is not apart of that category. You would think a movie that reminds you of another good movie(Lilo and Stitch) would be a good thing. It’s not. It just reminds you how much better Lilo and Stitch was, and how much Home isn’t as good.

The film follows an alien named Oh. They call him “Oh” because whenever he is around, the other aliens sigh and say “oh”. Oh is apart of the Boov alien race. They spend their lives running from the Gorg, another alien race that is set on destroying them. The Gorg are even known to blow up planets looking for the Boov. The Boov find a planet(Earth) and take over thinking the Gorg will never find them there. All of the humans on Earth are taken to Australia except one girl, Tip. Tip and her cat stay alone at home(her mom got captured). The two of them are constantly on the search of where her mother could be. Oh accidently sends a mass email to the whole galaxy which would make it easy for the Gorg to find the Boov. While running away from his fellow aliens, he runs into Tip and they make a deal to head to Australia and find her mom – while Oh somewhat has another plan of his own.

From the first time i seen the trailer, i had a feeling Oh wouldn’t be that good. There was just something off about it. Yea, there was a funny scene where Oh uses a public restroom and drinks “lemonade” from the toilet, but that was shown in the trailer. I think i can honestly say that every good part of the movie(and there isn’t alot) is shown in the trailer. RIhanna voices Tip and as much as i like her songs, i couldn’t bare to listen to her on screen. I think because it sounded too much like Rihanna that all you can think about was Rihanna. It’s like she was playing a younger version of herself. Jim Parsons plays the alien Oh. Oh is supposed to be a somewhat dumb and lovable character, but the character just came out plain dumb. The way he spoke english too was very annoying. But i guess that’s the point because you can get why the other aliens hated him.

I feel like the movie had somewhat potential based on the story, the only problem is – Disney did it better. A little girl teams up with a alien wanted by other aliens. Did the makers of this film totally forget about Lilo and Stitch? That movie was everything this movie should have been. So to compare it to that doesn’t seem fair, but you can’t help it. This movie is good enough to bring your kids to the theaters as i’m sure they will enjoy it. Just make sure to bring a pillow because Home will make you want to go home. I give Home a 4/10 because there is NOTHING original about this movie. The only reason i give it a 4 is because Steve Martin is in it and i respect him that much.
