Dumb and Dumber To review by Teejay McFly!

Plot: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: “Dumb and Dumber To.” The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.
Review: I grew up watching the original Dumb and Dumber. Yeah, i was about 3yrs old when the first one came out, but iv probably seen it around 50 times since i was 8. It is still a quotable till this day. So to say i was excited when this movie was green lit would be an understatement. My expectations might have been a little too high tho. They may not have met all of my expectations, but i wouldn’t call this movie a complete failure. Of course it wasn’t as funny as the original, but to see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels on the big screen again playing Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne was well worth admission.
The movie starts off with Lloyd(Jim Carrey) being held in a mental institution because he still hasn’t gotten over the events in the original film. We see Harry(Jeff Daniels) visiting him, as he does once a week, to let him know he won’t be able to visit him anymore because of his heath. This is the part where Lloyd tells him he’s been joking about being mental for the past 20yrs. From there we learn that Harry needs a kidney transplant and has a daughter he never knew about. Oh yeah, and Lloyd has the hots for her. The duo come up with a plan to get ahold of her so that way she can hopefully donate her kidney to Harry. Road trip!

If you are a big fan of the original, you see all the references. Some are as clear as day(Lloyd fighting ninjas in his daydream) and some are subtle(Lloyd referring he traded the dog car for a little motorcycle on a quarter tank of gas). I give the directors(The Farrelly Brothers) credit for giving this sequel a shot. You will hear most people say how “bad” the film is, but i feel its about as good as a sequel to the original you can get. You can tell everybody who was apart of this film gave it their all. Jim Carrey was pretty much involved in every funny scene and Jeff Daniels was great too. It seems like he played Harry just yesterday. These guys did not miss a beat. Another person who i thought would be more funny was Rob Riggle. He usually steals every scene in his other movies, but playing the villain in this one, i guess i can understand him being not as funny. I wonder how sweet it was for him(as a comedian) to be in the car with Carrey and Daniels while playing Lloyd and Harry. Im sure it was dreamlike. The obvious scene stealer is Carrey. It’s been awhile since we have seen him be in a comedy like this. He has since moved on to more dramatic films and has been quite successful. So to see him have that good old chip in his tooth definitely brought a smile to my face.
Long story short – although it didn’t break expectations for me, it was a proper send off for the classic duo. Forever people will remember The characters Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. As much as i wish it was as good as the original, we all knew it wouldn’t be. We just have to accept it as it is and just be happy we got to see them on the big screen again. Who knows, maybe in another 20yrs, they could play the characters as 70yr olds. I’m totally kidding, don’t do that Hollywood. At the end of the day, it was still better than Dumb and Dumberer. I give Dumb and Dumber To a 6/10.
