The main characters will actually look like turtles, as opposed to the “alien origin” that fanboys reacted harshly to. The designs are described as “traditional” yet “unremarkable,” featuring less texture than the characters in 1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The eyes are less “cartoonish”, with no beak for a nose, while each turtle will have three fingers and two toes like the original designs. However, each turtle does have a different physique, with Raphael and Leonardo having bigger muscles than the rest. Donatello is said to be much leaner, while Michelangelo is the shortest of the group. Each of the turtles’ masks match the same colors as the original cartoon and previous films, and they each carry their traditional weapons.
The turtles will also be dressed quite differently. Leonardo will have a samurai outfit including shoulder armor, leg and arm braces, along with footwear that extends to the calf with bindings. Donatello’s outfit is said to be a mix of high-tech gear and samurai garb, with gadgets coming off his head and shell. The ends of his mask are longer than the rest, coming down to his waist. Raphael sports a more modern look, with white bandage-like wrapping covering his feet, right leg and right arm, along with a leather loin cloth with straps draping down. Michelangelo has the simplest costume, with a hoodie wrapped around his waist, pants, sneakers with the toes cut out, wrappings on his hands and forearms, a necklace and mask straps that hang down to his chest.
April O’Neil and Master Splinter
Splinter is described as having a traditional design, with his hair pulled back in a “samurai nub” with Fu Manchu facial hair. He wears a tattered samurai outfit with a blue upper half and gold accents, with tan belted robes and sandals. He also comes equipped with a samurai sword. While April O’Neil’s action figure comes with two sai swords, her design is said to be traditional as well, with the character sporting a yellow jacket, blue jeans, a satchel and camera.
Shredder and The Foot Clan
Shredder, on the other hand, is described as being covered in blades from head to toe, with “pointy edges coming off of everything” in an “over-complicated outfit.” The helmet is somewhat traditional, with elements of the classic design, although the top comes down over his eyes and nose. Although he has blades everywhere, Shredder’s arms are almost bare, with shoulder armor featuring a number of blades, shin armor and even a cape fitted with sharp objects that could be whipped around. The weapon on his right arm could possibly be a spinning blade.
The Foot Soldiers designs are similar to the set photos we previously saw, with drab outfits accompanied by a full face mask. However, they also have brown vests with blue scarfs, black arms, tan pants, grey kneepads and black boots, and the masks are more grey, as opposed to the copper-colored masks shown in the set photos. The foot soldier toys come equipped with a handgun, knife and rifle.
