Synopsis: After the 1970s brought prosperity to the Channel 4 news team, the group disbands and hits rock bottom until a 24-hour news channel is being put together and the group is recruited to join the channel.
Review: I have waited 7+ years for this sequel to Anchorman. My best friend and I recite quotes from the film everyday. I was hoping that i didn’t set the bar TOO HIGH for myself going in to Anchorman 2. I may have set the bar high, but thank God it only fell a little short. Anchorman 2 is just as funny as the first one. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay once again bring magic to the screen. They know Anchorman has a huge cult following and they did not disappoint. It did feel like the movie was a little long, but it’s not that big of a deal. People have been waiting for this sequel for 10 years, i think they can handle an extra 15 minutes.
All of the channel 4 news team is back – Ron Burgundy(Will Ferrell), Brian Fantana(Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland(Steve Carell), and Champ Kind(David Koechner). It seems like this time around, Brick has a lot more screen time. He also falls in love with Chani(Kristen Wiig) who just like him, might be a tad slow. You also have newcomers Jason Marsden and Meagan Good. Marsden plays Jack Lime who is the hotshot and handsome anchor trying to ruin Burgundy’s career. Good plays Linda Jackson, the news team’s boss and later on Burgundy’s lover. The part when she introduces Ron to her family is HILARIOUS(Ron tries to talk slang to her family).
You can tell a lot of the classic things about the first film, they try to replicate for the sequel. The catchphrases, a big fight between all news stations(the cameos are CRAZY, don’t want to spoil it), and etc. Paul Rudd once again opens his cabinet, but instead of cologne, it’s full of different condoms(one is made with real mongoose). We do get the sex panther cameo at the end during the big wild news station fight. Personally Paul Rudd’s character has always been my favorite and he is just as funny here as he was in the first.
Fans of the first film will love this. It keeps all the same ingredients that made the first film a classic and adds a little more. Personally i still like the first one better, but that doesn’t mean i did not enjoy this. I give Anchorman 2….8/10
